‘Lyrebird’ World Premiere Confirmed for WCFF

The Message of the Lyrebird, a film which investigates the deep understanding of lyrebird behaviour, its habitat, and the sacred connection between humans and lyrebirds, will have its world premiere at the 11th Wildlife Conservation Film Festival.

The Balangara Films produced nature documentary tells the story of wildlife cinematographer Nick Hayward, who tracks down a cast of characters to understand the complex artistry of the world’s most creative songbird, including whether lyrebirds imitate sounds of human origin in the wild.

This question begins a journey into the native forests of Australia to help the audience understand not only the lyrebird’s sophisticated artwork, but what its message may be for humanity.

Lyrebird’s diverse cast features behavioural ecologist Dr Anastasia Dalziell, the Sherbrooke Lyrebird Study Group, activist Cam Walker, lyrebird keeper Kevin Mason, lyrebird sound recordist Carol Probets, and Frances Bodkin, a Knowledge-Holder descended from the People of the Lyrebird within the D’harawal nation.

The film has been selected alongside 100 of the finest wildlife conservation international films that promote sustainability and the conservation of biodiversity.

WCFF is the only film festival on the planet devoted to wildlife conservation and attracts thought-leaders from all over the world. The annual event will resume at the Cinema Village Theatre and other venues to a live audience in New York between 14-24 October, 2021.
